XRP Ledger developer Marvin Sunday, also known as @MarvinSunday4 on X, is making serious allegations against RippleX and Ripple for reportedly not fulfilling their financial obligations to participants of the XRPL Ambassadorship program, which officially ended on December 20, 2023. Marvin’s public outcry has shed light on Ripple’s community engagement practices, raising concerns about their management and fulfillment of promises.
XRP Developer Exposes Ripple
Sunday’s frustrations spilled over on X, where he outlined his contributions to the XRP Ledger community as part of the Ambassadorship program initiated by Ripple. According to Sunday, despite completing all required tasks and projects, the promised rewards have not been distributed, impacting him and several other students who were involved. He expressed, “Today marks approximately 8 months since [the Ambassadorship program concluded]. We are students! Some of us used our stipends or borrowed money. We did all this in good faith under the belief that we would be rewarded for our efforts, but we received nothing.”
In his posts, Sunday provides evidence to support his claims, including email confirmations of his program acceptance, links to events he organized, detailed pictures, and links to his projects, which were prerequisites of the program. He also narrates ongoing attempts to communicate with RippleX representatives, initially with Derrick and later with Miss Grace, who later left the company. The return to Derrick’s management coincided with delayed payments and unresolved communication.
“Me and some other ambassadors sent an email to RippleX detailing our challenges and expressing our concerns that we would take the issue public if not addressed. This was around March this year. After Derrick was replaced and Miss Grace became our new point of contact, things improved. We were informed that they would address the events but prioritize paying for projects initially, which I accepted. Half payment is better than nothing,” Sunday explained.
However, Ripple has once again failed to respond to Sunday, leaving the second half of the payout outstanding. Consequently, the developer felt compelled to share his story publicly. “Why am I exposing Ripple in this manner? I realized that they might end the year without making any payments or addressing our concerns. New participants might face similar mistreatment in the next cohort. I refused to be treated unfairly without standing up for myself,” he added.
In response to the public revelation, a representative from Ripple’s developer relationship team addressed Sunday’s concerns on X, attributing the issues to a technical glitch that caused the ambassador portal to malfunction due to non-payment. The representative assured, “Marvin, you are scheduled to receive payment. Instead of resorting to public forums, why not reply to my email directly? Additionally, as you noticed, the site went down due to non-payment, which was an unfortunate incident that required resolution.”
Despite this explanation, Sunday expressed dissatisfaction with the suggested private communication, highlighting his unsuccessful attempts to resolve the matter through recommended channels. He stressed, “It seems like you are implying that I never raised this issue multiple times on Discord, and we even contacted the team via email, but no resolution was provided. Hence, my last option is to address this publicly. We are being mistreated and ignored, which is unjust. I refuse to send any more emails. This is my stance,” Sunday concluded.
The dispute has sparked reactions from other community members and observers, including crypto analyst @DarkhorseDNME4, who questioned the legitimacy of the ambassadorship program. “The XRPL ambassadorship program? Is it a scheme designed to exploit free development, marketing, and influence without compensating participants? How is this program in Nigeria funded? Who is behind this?”
Further responses from Ripple were pending at the time of publication, with XRP trading at $0.60.
