Efforts to broker another truce between Israel and Hamas have stalled, with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu calling back Mossad negotiators who were in Doha to discuss the release of women and children, after accusing Hamas of not fulfilling their part of the agreement.
The talks made little progress, with both parties blaming each other for the breakdown of the truce, initially set on November 24. Another attempt to resume the truce and discuss a hostage-prisoner exchange agreement is underway, mediated by Qatar, the US, and Egypt.
Following the truce breakdown, Israel’s military offensive in Gaza has led to civilian casualties and a dire humanitarian situation, with civilians facing displacement and a lack of basic necessities.
Meanwhile, Hamas has resumed rocket launches across the border, indicating a renewal of hostilities.
