Reports indicate that Mike Lynch, a prominent tech entrepreneur from the UK, is among those missing after a luxury yacht sank off the coast of Sicily.
Angela Bacares, Lynch’s wife, was rescued, according to sources. The 56m yacht, Bayesian, sank in bad weather conditions, leading to several people going missing.
The yacht management company, Camper and Nicholsons, stated that the vessel encountered severe weather and subsequently sank near Palermo in the early hours of Monday morning.
Of the 12 guests and 10 crew onboard, 15 have been rescued by the Italian coast guard. Sadly, one body has been recovered, while six individuals are still missing.
Lynch, the former CEO of Autonomy, was acquitted of criminal charges in San Francisco, marking the end of a 12-year legal battle over Autonomy’s sale to Hewlett-Packard for $11bn in 2011.
Following the verdict, Lynch expressed his happiness and anticipation of a return to the UK, focusing on his family and innovative work.
Despite Lynch’s association with the sunken yacht, a spokesperson declined to provide any comments at the moment.
Giuseppe D’Agostino, mayor of Santa Flavia, revealed that the search is ongoing, with survivors in shock and struggling to speak about the traumatic experience.
