JetBrains has introduced the latest 2024.2 updates for its line of JetBrains IDEs and JetBrains AI Assistant. These updates bring a fresh, streamlined user interface to the IDEs, along with enhanced code completion and chat capabilities to the JetBrains AI Assistant. The unveiling of the 2024.2 updates took place on August 6th.
The JetBrains AI Assistant 2024.2 now offers faster and more intelligent code completion for Java, Kotlin, and Python, leveraging JetBrains’ internally trained large language models (LLMs). Support for additional languages is on the horizon, according to JetBrains. Additionally, the AI assistant’s chat functionality has been enhanced with the introduction of GPT-4o mini model support, and now includes chat references for better context. New features include in-terminal VCS conflict resolution and customizable prompts for unit tests and documentation.
As for the JetBrains IDEs, a new user interface is now the default for all users. This updated, more streamlined UI was designed to reduce visual complexity, provide easy access to essential features, and gradually reveal more complex functionality when needed. The classic JetBrains UI is still available as a plugin. Furthermore, the Search Everywhere dialog now allows developers to preview codebase elements being searched. The JetBrains IDEs will now automatically detect and utilize proxy settings configured on a developer’s machine.
