JetBrains has recently launched AI Assistant, an AI-powered coding companion available to paid users of JetBrains IDEs such as IntelliJ IDEA, PyCharm, PhpStorm, ReSharper, and Fleet through subscription.
Unveiled on December 6, AI Assistant offers a range of capabilities including code explanations, code-based queries, code and documentation generation, commit message creation, and more. Powered by OpenAI and proprietary JetBrains large language models, AI Assistant requires a supplemental subscription for customers of paid editions of JetBrains IDEs.
With AI Assistant integrated into JetBrains IDE, users can benefit from features like multiline code completion, documentation and test generation, identifier name suggestions, AI-based refactoring, and code explanation. The JetBrains AI Service connects users to various LLMs and enables specific AI-powered features within the IDE. After acquiring the AI Assistant license, users can activate the license within the IDE to access its capabilities.
