2022 was a year of significant professional growth for me, and I owe a lot of it to AAM. First, I successfully advocated for a well-deserved title change after consistently demonstrating my capabilities and dedication in my role over the past year. I approached the conversation with confidence, emphasizing the value of my work and the need for a title that accurately reflected my responsibilities. After staying true to my message and showing understanding of company policies, I was thrilled when my request was ultimately granted.
However, as time went on, I began to realize that the demands of my role were taking a toll on me. Although I excelled in the management aspect, I found that my passion truly lay in problem-solving and project management. This realization led me to propose a new arrangement to my manager, which included a different title, reduced hours and pay, and a focus on project work. I carefully laid out my case, highlighting the benefits for both myself and the company, and after some challenging discussions, my proposal was approved to commence next year.
Although presenting these proposals was nerve-wracking, I was encouraged by the support of my company, with whom I’ve had a long-standing relationship. I believe that my success in advocating for myself and making a change demonstrates the importance of being proactive and adaptable in one’s career. I hope my experience can inspire others to pursue their own professional growth and advocate for what they truly want in their work.
