When it comes to Costco memberships, there are plenty of benefits to enjoy. From discounted furniture to bulk food items, there’s a lot to love. However, my family has a love-hate relationship with Costco as we struggle to find items that make the membership worth it.
Despite this, we are always on the lookout for ways to save money on groceries and home goods. Here are some alternatives we use:
1. Aldi is the ultimate grocery budget saver
Aldi is where we go to save money on groceries. While the food selection may be different from traditional grocery stores, the surprise element of not knowing what you’ll find each time you visit adds to the fun. Plus, where else can you get a dozen eggs for under $2?
Despite grocery prices rising, Aldi remains one of the few stores where you can still feel like you’re getting a good deal. Recent research shows that Aldi prices are 6% cheaper than Walmart for a basket of 50 common household items.
2. BOGO deals at my favorite grocery store
Taking advantage of buy-one-get-one-free deals at local grocery stores is a great way to save money on groceries. For us, Publix is the go-to store for these deals, where we often stock up on items like cereal, bagged salad, and granola.
Additionally, Publix’s top-notch customer service makes it a pleasure to shop there. In fact, Publix recently ranked at the top of a customer satisfaction survey, tied with Costco and H-E-B.
3. Subscribe & Save with Amazon
Using Amazon’s Subscribe & Save feature can lead to significant savings on essentials. While managing subscriptions may require some effort, the savings are well worth it in the end.
Amazon claims you can save up to 15% on essentials with Subscribe & Save, making it a cost-effective option for households.
4. Walmart pickups
For items not purchased from Aldi, Amazon, or Publix, we turn to Walmart’s convenient pickup service. Ordering online and having groceries loaded into your car upon arrival makes shopping hassle-free and budget-friendly.
With Walmart’s prices estimated to be 13% lower than the average grocery store, their pickup service offers both convenience and affordability.
While Costco is a popular choice for savings, there are numerous other places where you can find great deals on groceries and household items. Just remember, the excitement of a large delivery box may not always match your expectations.
